8 Reasons to Study in Ireland

With the endless opportunities linked to the sheer amount of countries you can now study abroad in, it can be hard to narrow down your choice to just one. Here are eight reasons why studying in Ireland might be the right option for you.

1. Courses Taught in English

If you’re looking to study in English and live in an English-speaking country, then Ireland just might be for you. You’ll have a wide variety of courses to choose from, all of them offered in English. Getting a part-time job and making friends might be easier as well because of the lack of a language barrier.

2. Prestigious Universities

There are many well-renowned universities located in Ireland including the centuries-old Trinity College Dublin and the cutting edge University College Dublin. Irish universities hold an excellent reputation worldwide with both employers and academics alike.

3. More Affordable Tuition Than in Other English Speaking Countries

Let’s face it, the costs of studying abroad can sometimes be a major deterrent. The tuition fees in Ireland, however, are more affordable than in the UK, Canada and especially the US. EU Citizens can also benefit from the Free Fees Initiative for their undergraduate degree and only pay up to 3000€ a year. Unlike other countries, non-EU students are also permitted to work part-time during their studies whilst on a study visa. This makes Ireland a fantastic choice for students wishing to study in an English speaking country without breaking the bank.

4. The People

The Irish are known for being extremely welcoming and hospitable, making it easy for international students to find local friends and integrate into Irish society. Irish people also love some good old craic (Irish slang for fun) so you’re bound to have a fantastic time living here.

5. The Nature

Ireland is the home to several natural wonders from the Giant’s Causeway to the Cliffs of Moher. However, you don’t have to venture off to the famous sites to be in awe of the Irish nature; nearly all of Ireland is very green and beautiful. Besides the magnificent nature, Ireland is also known for its quaint small villages and lovely towns.

6. The Ease of Travel

If you’re the type of person who doesn’t just want to stay in one country but who would like to travel all around Europe, then Ireland might be a great hub for you. Flying to anywhere around Europe from Dublin is easy and affordable thanks to the low-cost budget airline, Ryanair (which is Irish by the way!).

7. Work Opportunities

As an English-speaking country, Ireland makes a natural home for the headquarters of many US multinational companies. You’ve probably heard of some of them…such as Google, Airbnb, Facebook, Paypal and Amazon to name a few. This makes Ireland an exciting destination for students who are eager to take up internships and employment opportunities with some of the biggest tech companies in the world.

8. Third Level Graduate Scheme

Would you like to stay in Ireland to work after graduating? The Third Level Graduate Scheme provides just that opportunity. Non-EEA students who have graduated from an accredited degree in Ireland are allowed to stay in the country for up to two years for the purpose of finding work.
