The Pros And Cons Of Last Minute Discount Travel

Taking a trip can be exciting, but preparing for that same trip can be exhausting. You can run into a lot of problems just getting your documents settled, your passport in order, your visa stamped on, and any kind of permit or document signed. You can spend hours and hours of packing, and you may still forget something.

Or worse, you can spend hours and hours packing your clothes and then have no space left over for the things that you want to bring with you back home. Of course, if the airline loses your luggage, then that can be the worst of all, and it can be something that is not unforeseen when it comes to running to the airport at the last minute.

Before you start thinking that technology is your friend and that you can still travel as much as you wish, and as late in the game as you want, think again. There are so many things that can go wrong when you do anything at the last minute: you can lose your documents and passports, the airline can lose your luggage, and with the storm going on all about you, you could very well lose your mind. And when you start traveling on a discount package, you may encounter hidden fees well after you have settled on the package that you want. Here are the other things that could go wrong with discount travel if you are not vigilant and careful.

- In general, discount travel can involve the whole package including airfare, accommodations, and even a guided tour. The good thing about such packages is that they save you time and money when you need to get a lot of touring done within a fixed span of time. The disadvantage is that sometimes, such packages can be expensive and you may not get to do things on your own, especially walks, hikes, or shopping, when you are on a set schedule.

- Another disadvantage of discount travel is that sometimes, the restaurants, tour groups, and gift shops involved in the discount travel package all know each other, and have arranged for higher fees for tourists that visit an area. From a capitalist perspective, this is almost understandable, even expected. But keep in mind that a lot of the things that will be thrown your way during a discount tour or package will be overpriced. Don’t forget this even in your last minute panic!

- One advantage of discount travel is that it saves you money, but take note that not everything on this planet is free – and even if it’s advertise as free, it won’t be completely free, or will be of low quality. For instance, you could be sold discount travel for your last minute trip, but you will have to take many more flights and have a lot of layovers in order to be accommodated.

This can be tiring for you, and when you finally get to your destination, you can be exhausted and out of whack. Or you may getting lot of discounts at the purchasing time, but when the bill comes to you of your credit card, you can see that so many hidden charges is added into it.

These are only a few disadvantages of last minute discount travel. For more information on how you can avoid these pitfalls, do a lot of online research and talk to your travel agent.

Are you preparing to take a flight this year? If so, could you name off all of the air travel rules, including the ones that were recently implemented? You may think that you could, but many travelers actually can’t. This is because many are aware of all of the items that are prohibited from being on airplanes. Unfortunately, being unfamiliar with all of air travel rules can spell trouble.  Not only can you miss your flight, but you can also be banned from the airline altogether, or you could be arrested. In order to prevent this from happening, you are suggested to read the rules of air travel, well in advance.

As previously mentioned, there are a number of different ways that you can go about familiarizing yourself with common air travel rules.  When doing so, it is important to remember that different airports and different airlines tend to have different guidelines, rules, and restrictions. Therefore, it may be best if you obtain your information directly from them.

Flying? Preparing For Your Flight

Are you planning for a business trip or a family vacation this year? There is a good chance of your flying if that is the case.  Flying is a relatively safe, easy, and convenient way to travel.  However, before you leave for the airport, you are advised to start preparing for your flight, well in advance.  Unfortunately, many travelers do not realize that preparing for your flight does not just include packing your bags.  Thanks to new air travel rules and the enforcement of them, preparation now includes more than you could ever imagine.

As previously mentioned, it best that you start preparing for your flight early.  In fact, you should start preparing as soon as you buy your airline tickets, whether that be two weeks before you leave or two months.  The first step that you will want take is to familiarize yourself with the airline that you are flying with and the airport which you will be flying out of.  You can easily do this research online. You will want to determine how early you should leave for the airport and what items you will need to bring along with you, such as personal identification.

It is a good thing to review the banned items list. These are items that you are not allowed to have on the airplane or past certain points in most airports.  The most commonly banned items include sharp objects and flammable items, but there other items included in these bans, items that you may have never even thought about before. That is why it is best that you learn what you can and cannot bring on your next family vacation or business trip.  In the event that you try to bring along items that are prohibited, you may have them confiscated.

If you are planning on familiarizing yourself with banned items and other airline rules, it may be a good idea to print off a list of what you find.  Printable lists of items that are banned in airports and on airplanes can be found onlinefrom a number of different websites.  One of those websites includes the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  A printable list is ideal, especially if you do not need to start packing for your trip right away.

After you have familiarized yourself with the air travel rules, including the ones that were recently implemented, you will need to start packing, whether you do so right away or not.  When packing, you will want to remember everything that you learned, although, if you printed off a list, your packing will be much easier.  In the event that you are not sure whether or not an item can be brought on an airplane, you are advised to leave it at home.  Banned items can not only be confiscated, but they could cause you to miss your flight. That is why you are advised against taking any unnecessary chances.

Once your bags have been packed and all your travel plans are in order, you will need to head to the airport. It is advised that you arrive at the airport, at least, two hours in advance.  It is important that you check with your airport, because some airports have different restrictions. Depending on the size of your airport or the number of flights going in and out, you may find that you need to arrive three or even four hours in advance. It is important that you not only have your plane tickets with you, but also proper forms of identification.

Once at the airport, it is important that you remain calm at all times, even if you are approached by airport security.  In today’s world, it is not uncommon for you to be subject to a random bag check or search; therefore, you should not fret if you are asked.  Instead, just remain calm and in no time at all, you should be on your way to enjoying your vacation or your business trip.

Coping With The Symptoms Of Jet Lag By Breaking Up Your Journey

In its simplest form jet lag occurs when you travel and you internal body clock’s time is out of balance with the local time at your destination. For instance, if you depart from London, England, at 9 pm and fly to Bangkok, Thailand, you will land roughly 13 hours later at 10 am London time the next morning. However, because you have traveled across a number of time zones, the local time at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport is now 4 pm that same afternoon.

Having traveled to your hotel, checked in and taken a shower your internal bod clock will now be telling you that it is time to have something to eat. Now, your body thinks that it is time for lunch and, although everyone else is eating dinner, it doesn’t matter to your body clock what you call the meal, it only cares that you eat. So far so good, however, three or four hours later when everyone else begins going to bed your problems will begin as your body clock believes it is now only late afternoon.

A time difference of 6 hours, such as that shown in this illustration, is significant and most people would experience the effects of jet lag. Actually, while a couple of hours will hardly produce any effect at all, anything over 4 hours will produce jet lag symptoms in most of us.

There are of course various things which you can do prior to your journey, during the course of your flight and at your destination to help to counter jet lag but one problem that researchers have noted recently is that whenever your internal body clock experiences a large shift in time it frequently overcompensates when adjusting itself and thus leaves you suffering from a double dose of jet lag before it finally settles down. Against this background, how can you compensate for this?

To a certain extent you can take this into account and lower your jet lag symptoms by beginning to adjust your internal clock before travelling, although your personal circumstances could make this difficult. One alternative course of action therefore is simply to break your journey whenever you are traveling across more than 4 or 5 time zones.

In the case of our illustrative trip to Thailand this could for example involve breaking your journey half way and resting for a day before flying on. Today’s air travel might have made the world smaller but it is going to take the human body a bit longer to catch up to modern technology.
